DataVista is a data-storytelling website. It takes open data, from Bahrain's official statistics to NASA's planet archive, and turns it into charts that make the story easy to see.

Data doesn't speak for itself. It needs a storyteller. Every page here starts with a chart, and every chart tries to show something you couldn't see in a table of numbers.

What you'll find

• Explore: live charts built on open data, refreshed automatically when publishers release new figures.
• Stories: longer reads and how-tos on working with data and presenting it well.
• Chart of the Week: one chart, every week, explained.

How it's made

• Open data only. Every chart names its source, and all sources are listed on the Data sources page.
• No invented numbers. When a figure isn't published, you'll see a gap, not a guess.
• Charts built to be read. One highlighted colour for the point that matters, labels on the data, a source line on every chart.
• Kept current by automation, so the numbers update without anyone copying them by hand.
